Hello, I’m Kyohei, the CEO of Helios Inc.

It’s been some time since Helios Inc. was officially registered, but we’re excited to announce the launch of our website! In this first blog post, I’d like to share the story behind our company’s establishment and our vision for the future.

Background

Helios Co., Ltd. was co-founded by myself and Kenichi, a university peer from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology. While we didn’t talk about starting a business together during our student days, a chance reconnection set everything in motion.

It began when someone in the aerospace field reached out to me asking if I knew anyone in the United States working in the space industry. Naturally, I thought of Kenichi and contacted him after many years.

At the time, Kenichi had recently earned his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Boulder and had gained extensive experience in the U.S. aerospace and remote sensing industries. He had also been closely observing the remote sensing industry in Japan. After discussing the potential for innovation and timing, we decided it was the perfect moment to start a business. Within just a couple of months, we registered Helios Inc., and here we are today!

Our company’s name, Helios, has its roots in a team project from our college days. As third-year students, we engaged in a CanSat (simulated satellite) competition with a team called "Helios," named after the Greek god of the sun. At that time, our mission involved developing technology to harness sunlight. Similarly, in our company today, the name Helios symbolizes our mission: to "harness and analyze" diverse datasets, including satellite imagery.

Future Ambitions

At Helios Inc., we are building on three core strengths to shape our future and innovate in the field of remote sensing:

1. A Highly Skilled Analysis Team

Under the leadership of Kenichi, we’ve assembled a team of experts, including specialists in robotics and AI. Together, we’re exploring and implementing cutting-edge analysis methods. We aim to provide high-precision, user-friendly data access powered by data fusion and AI/ML technologies.

2. Commitment to Cutting-Edge Technology

We stay at the forefront of innovation by keeping up with the latest research and applying insights from academic papers not only in satellite data but also in adjacent fields. This commitment ensures our analyses leverage the most advanced methodologies available.

3. A One-Stop Service from Data Acquisition to Analysis

While our initial focus is on data analysis, our long-term goal is to develop advanced sensors, such as hyperspectral sensors, to acquire environmental data with greater precision and ease. This end-to-end capability will empower users to access and utilize high-quality data seamlessly.

We envision Helios Inc. as a bridge between the space industry and other disciplines, enabling impactful applications of data across a wide range of fields.
